Scope. Factual record of the correspondence between google/artemis and minitap-ai/mobile-use, compiled from GitHub server records, third-party archives (Wayback Machine, Software Heritage, PyPI, GH Archive), and a sealed evidence package with a SHA-256 manifest and OpenTimestamps proof. Every dated claim below is traceable to one of those sources.

The two repositories

• mobile-use: github.com/minitap-ai/mobile-use. Open-source AI agent for Android/iOS automation by Minitap. Repository created August 16, 2025 (GitHub API created_at). Apache-2.0, with a NOTICE file ("Copyright 2025-2026 Minitap, Inc.") that also requests attribution. pyproject.toml authors: Pierre-Louis Favreau, Jean-Pierre Lo, Nicolas Dehandschoewercker. 2,816 stars as of September 11, 2026.
• artemis: github.com/google/artemis. "ARTEMIS Android Agent & Automation Platform", published in the google GitHub organization. Repository created August 13, 2026. Apache-2.0; every file carries a "Copyright 2026 Google LLC" header. 1,835 stars as of September 11, 2026.

TL;DR: Established by GitHub server records and third-party archives

• Artemis's initial commit contained mobile-use's exact version number (3.6.3) and its three authors' names, under a "Copyright 2026 Google LLC" header.
• A force-push 8 minutes 39 seconds after branch creation replaced only those three names with a pseudonym, leaving 228 of 229 files bit-identical.
• All five force-pushes on the repository rewrote author identities and/or history; four of five left the code tree bit-identical.
• The initial tree contains extensive verbatim mobile-use code, prompts, file layout, and artifacts that only make sense in mobile-use's history: the Maestro migration text, the lim CLI reference, "Mobile use context" docstrings, a reproduced defect, identical provider-validation error strings, the OPEN_ROUTER_API_KEY spelling, and unused client models for Minitap's own platform backend.
• The copied feature set includes work contributed by mobile-use's open-source community and features published in Minitap's documentation that is still live today.
• mobile-use predates Artemis by ~12 months and the matched code was public on GitHub and PyPI months before Artemis existed.
• No version of Artemis has ever mentioned Minitap or mobile-use. </aside>

📝 Situation

August 16, 2025 - mobile-use is published

• minitap-ai/mobile-use is created on GitHub (API created_at 2025-08-16T21:49:49Z) and developed in public from then on. Parts of the codebase predate publication: for example tools/tool_wrapper.py (the tool lifecycle-callback structure discussed below) was committed on 2025-08-03 (commit b8af87a, Pierre-Louis Favreau).
• License history: Apache-2.0, then MIT, then Apache-2.0 again, with the final transition in January 2026. The repository ships a NOTICE file crediting "Copyright 2025-2026 Minitap, Inc.".

2025-07 to 2026-06 - mobile-use's LLM provider support is built commit by commit

The multi-provider stack later found in Artemis has a dated, contributor-by-contributor history in mobile-use:

• July 23, 2025: OpenRouter support, commit 182c6d1 (Nicolas Dehandschoewercker).
• July 24, 2025: xAI Grok support, commit 1366c43 (Pierre-Louis Favreau), fixed and merged with OpenRouter support in f4cc4ad (2025-07-25).
• August 26, 2025: local OpenAI-compatible endpoints (Ollama, vLLM) via the OPENAI_BASE_URL env var, commit 59c5b82 (Jean-Pierre Lo).
• September 2, 2025: Vertex AI support, commit 44a21fc (Pierre-Louis Favreau), merged via PR #46.
• June 8, 2026: Anthropic Claude support contributed by an external community member, Karun Agarwal, via PR #185.
